Kwara State Government Reduces Workweek to Tackle Skyrocketing Transport Expenses

In a bid to address the unprecedented increase in transportation costs, the Kwara State Government has issued a directive reducing the workweek from five days to three days for all state workers. This decision was announced today in a statement released by Murtala Atoyebi, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazak.

The State Head of Service, Mrs Susan Oluwole, has subsequently instructed all Heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to promptly devise a schedule outlining the alternating workdays for each employee within their respective departments.

Oluwole emphasized that this measure was a temporary solution aimed at alleviating the burdens faced by public workers in the state. She acknowledged the hardship endured by employees due to the recent removal of fuel subsidies, a move implemented by the Federal Government.

While appreciating the governor’s benevolence, Oluwole cautioned workers against taking advantage of the situation. She reiterated that her office would intensify the regular monitoring of MDAs to ensure strict compliance with the new work arrangement.

The decision to implement a three-day workweek comes as a response to the exorbitant increase in transport fares, which has significantly affected the livelihoods of the state’s workforce. By reducing the number of workdays, the government aims to provide some relief to employees grappling with financial challenges resulting from the removal of fuel subsidies.

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazak, known for his commitment to the welfare of the people, has continuously sought to address issues affecting the populace. This latest directive demonstrates the government’s responsiveness to the plight of workers and its determination to alleviate the impact of economic fluctuations on their lives.

In the coming days, state employees will adjust their schedules to accommodate the new work arrangement. It is expected that this temporary measure will ease the financial burden on workers and enable them to cope with the current economic challenges effectively.

The Kwara State Government remains committed to ensuring the well-being of its workforce and will continue to explore additional strategies to mitigate the impact of rising costs on the livelihoods of its citizens.
