Minna, Niger State – In a recent development, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU) has expelled twenty-three students due to their poor academic performance and involvement in various misconducts. This announcement was made by Professor Abu Kasim Adamu, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, during a press briefing held in Minna yesterday. The news comes just days before the university’s highly anticipated 4th joint convocation, scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 21.

According to the Vice Chancellor, out of the expelled students, seventeen had been advised to withdraw from the institution due to their consistent poor academic performance. On the other hand, seven students were expelled for engaging in various forms of misconducts, which violated the university’s code of conduct.

Professor Abu Kasim Adamu emphasized the university’s commitment to maintaining academic excellence and discipline. He expressed his disappointment over the actions of the expelled students, stating that the institution has zero tolerance for such behaviors. The Vice Chancellor highlighted the university’s firm stance against crimes such as cultism, drug abuse, and cybercrime, declaring that any student found involved in such activities would face immediate rustication.

In a positive light, the Vice Chancellor shared some statistics regarding the upcoming convocation. A total of 6,154 students will be graduating during the ceremony, with distinctions awarded to exemplary students. Among the graduates, 37 will be receiving first-class honors, 954 will receive second-class upper certificates, and 3,283 will receive second-class lower division degrees. Additionally, 1,538 students will graduate with a third-class degree, while 17 students will receive a pass.

The Vice Chancellor further explained that the convocation will encompass graduands from the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 academic sessions. Out of the total number of graduates, 5,719 will be undergraduates, while the remaining 435 will consist of students pursuing Post Graduate Diploma (PGD), Masters degrees, and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programs.

As the convocation draws near, the university community eagerly awaits the celebration of academic achievements while also acknowledging the importance of upholding discipline and integrity within the institution.
