The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has issued a statement reiterating that a video circulating on social media depicting individuals wearing red jackets resembling those worn by NDLEA officers is an old skit that the Agency had previously disclaimed. The video resurfaced online a year after the NDLEA first denied any association with it.
According to Mr. Femi Babafemi, the Director of Media and Advocacy at the NDLEA, the Agency established that the video is a skit produced by Mathew C. Eze, a resident of the Lekki area in Lagos, following a series of public inquiries. Screenshot pictures were attached to the statement to illustrate the video in question.
The NDLEA’s recent statement emphasized the need for social media content producers to exercise restraint, responsibility, and decorum when using the paraphernalia of law enforcement officers to avoid misunderstandings and insinuations.
The Agency also warned against the misuse of its official jackets to deceive and create false impressions, as there will be consequences for such indiscretions.
The NDLEA’s efforts to clarify the situation stem from the confusion that the video has created among concerned members of the public. The Agency urges everyone to be cautious and to verify the authenticity of social media content before sharing it.
