Following their impressive 4-1 aggregate victory over Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals, Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva expressed optimism about his team’s chances against Real Madrid in the upcoming semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League.
Silva played a key role in City’s first-leg win at the Etihad, contributing two goals in the Sky Blues’ 3-0 thumping of the German giants. The result gave his team an easy advancement to the next round of the competition.
Looking ahead to their match against Real Madrid, Silva said that City can exact revenge for their elimination by the Spanish giants at the same stage of the competition last season. In that encounter, City were leading 2-1 on aggregate in stoppage time, but a brace from Rodrygo and a goal from Karim Benzema sealed the win for Real Madrid.
Despite that disappointment, Silva is confident that his team can turn the tables this time around. “Hopefully, yes!” he said in a post-match interview. “We know how tough it is to play Madrid in this competition, but we’ve got to go for it definitely. We always go for it, but we feel the team is very, very confident at the moment. I think we’re going through it,” he added.
This will be Manchester City’s third consecutive appearance in the semi-finals of the Champions League. Last year, they were eliminated by Real Madrid, but this year, Silva and his teammates are determined to make it to the final and win the trophy. While they made it to the final in 2021, they lost to Chelsea 1-0.
