Napoli’s Victor Osimhen is facing a significant injury concern ahead of the club’s UEFA Champions League quarter-final fixture against AC Milan on Wednesday. The Super Eagles forward sustained a knee injury while on international duty in March, causing him to miss Napoli’s last two Serie A games against AC Milan and Lecce.
Despite Napoli’s hope that Osimhen would recover in time for the quarter-final match against Milan, the player is yet to fully recover from the knock. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the 24-year-old trained alone and then headed off to the gym.
While Napoli would undoubtedly want their star forward back for the Champions League fixture, the club is unlikely to rush Osimhen back into the matchday squad, considering they still have nine Serie A games to play and are in line to win their first Scudetto since 1990.
Osimhen has been in fantastic form for Napoli this season, scoring 25 goals in 29 matches in all competitions. He currently tops the Serie A top scorers list with 21 goals and four assists. Despite his impressive performances, the club’s medical team will only allow him to return to play when he is deemed fully fit and ready to contribute.
