According to a recent disclosure by the Dangote Group of companies, their top priority in business is to ensure that Nigeria becomes a self-sufficient nation by meeting its needs for the production of economic and social services.
The group also emphasized its commitment to creating direct and indirect jobs for millions of Nigerians through production, distribution, and allied services.
During the 34th Enugu International Trade Fair, Mr. Abayomi Shittu, the Regional Sales Director of Dangote Cement plc in the South-east, reiterated the group’s efforts in achieving its targets. He mentioned that the company’s food subsidiaries, Dangote Sugar Refinery, NASCON Allied Industries (Dangote Salt), and Dangote Rice, are providing jobs through various schemes. Dangote Sugar Refinery has provided jobs to thousands of farmers in the host communities through its out-grower scheme.
Shittu also emphasized the group’s belief in Nigeria’s vast economic potential and its desire to invest massively in states across the country. He mentioned that the coming of Dangote Fertiliser has helped to change the face of agriculture in Nigeria. Additionally, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, when functional, will drive the development of ancillary industries that will utilize the byproducts as raw materials.
Furthermore, Shittu noted that the company’s regular participation in major trade fairs across the country is because they believe that Chambers of Commerce & Industry occupy a unique position in driving economic development through their activities.
The President of the Enugu Chamber of Commerce, Mines, Industries and Agriculture, ECCIMA, Mr. Jasper Nduagwuike, acknowledged the concerted efforts of Dangote in bringing the Dangote Refinery on stream. He mentioned that the refinery would go a long way in addressing the challenges and problems associated with the availability and cost of refined petroleum products in Nigeria.
In conclusion, Nduagwuike described the Dangote group’s exploits as a great level and high degree of vision, creative thinking, research, innovations, doggedness, hard work, and industry, which has culminated in what one can describe as the Dangote business and industry empire today.
