According to reports, the Kwara State Police Command has arrested a suspected member of a kidnapping gang that has been terrorizing residents of Aboto community in the Asa local government area of the state. The kidnapping incident occurred on Sunday, where three individuals were abducted.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the state command, Ajayi Okasanmi, confirmed the incident and reported that one of the suspects had been arrested. He also added that the investigation was still ongoing.
It was disclosed that the kidnappings took place in two separate incidents between 2:00 – 6:00 pm on Sunday. The first incident involved Abdulfatai, who was returning from the farm in his vehicle with his three children when he was waylaid by the kidnappers. The second incident involved two apprentices of a chemist store, who were riding on a bike that was driven by one Saheed (Bakayoko), when they were ambushed.
Fortunately, Abdulfatai escaped, leaving his three children inside the vehicle. The kidnappers released the two younger siblings after they stated that they could find their way back home, but they kidnapped Abdulbasit, who is said to be about five years old.
The second incident occurred around 6:00 pm when Bakayoko was conveying Ramat, an apprentice at a chemist store, and her colleague, who were both teenagers of about 18 years, on a motorcycle when they were ambushed. However, Bakayoko pretended that he needed to retrieve his fallen shoes and managed to escape, leaving the girls behind.
Sources within the community have reported that the situation is being closely monitored and that additional efforts are being made to apprehend other members of the kidnapping syndicate. The Kwara State Police Command has urged residents to remain calm and report any suspicious activities in the area promptly.
