The Yoruba Afenifere Youth Organisation of Nigeria (YAYON) has called on President-elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure that young people are adequately represented in his proposed Federal Cabinet.
The group also warned those planning to cause trouble after the upcoming Governorship and State House of Assembly elections to desist from doing so. YAYON has set up a monitoring team to identify and report any troublemakers to security operatives.
In a joint statement signed by Yoruba Youth National Leader, Comrade Eric Oluwole, Lekan Wilki of the Yoruba Youth Alliance, Abiodun Rosanwo of the Yoruba Youth Community Policing, Adewale Adeyemo representing Yoruba Afenifere Youths, and Yinka Adedugbe of the Congress of Yoruba Youths, the group emphasized the importance of youth participation in the Federal Cabinet in reducing social unrest in Nigeria.
YAYON also congratulated Tinubu on his victory in the February 25 presidential election and expressed confidence that the former Lagos State governor would use his leadership qualities to address Nigeria’s challenges. The group believes that Nigeria’s problems are rooted in the imbalanced Federal system imposed by the military and that Tinubu, as President, can restructure Nigeria into a true federalism where every citizen is given equal rights, without discrimination based on language, religion, or social status. The group urged Tinubu to heed the long-standing call of Nigerians for restructuring and promised to support his efforts towards creating a more just, fair, and egalitarian society.
