During an empowerment programme for over 4,000 people, including 445 graduates, 200 physically challenged individuals, and 587 beneficiaries trained in agricultural value chain, Senator Olamilekan Adeola, the senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun West Senatorial District, promised to use his legislative experience to improve the socio-economic status of the district if he is elected in the upcoming election. The event took place on Monday at Asade Agunloye Pavilion in Ilaro.
As the current representative of Lagos West in the National Assembly, Adeola emphasized his commitment to facilitating development projects in the district, and disclosed that he has already empowered over 15,000 individuals with cash grants and trade tools since he started his campaign for the senatorial seat. He further revealed that the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, the National Productivity Centre, and two other government agencies had provided training to 445 graduates on information and communication technology (ICT), who were also empowered with computer laptops and N100,000 cash grants each.
Adeola also announced that, in conjunction with two government agencies, the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria and National Productivity Centre, 4,000 beneficiaries were being empowered with computer laptops, tricycles, makeup kits, hairdressing salon equipment, gas cylinders, cookers, confectionery equipment, grinding machines, deep freezers, and sewing machines, as well as cash grants of N100,000 for 200 physically challenged individuals and N80,000 for 587 Agric-Value Chain trainees.
The beneficiaries were drawn from the five local government areas of Ogun West Senatorial District, namely, Ado Odo Ota, Yewa South, Yewa North, Ipokia, and Imeko Afon. Additionally, the lawmaker donated 25 electric transformers to 25 communities in Ogun West, fulfilling one of the 60 transformer requests he received during his campaign, with the promise to donate more after the February 25 election.
In conclusion, Adeola urged the beneficiaries to use the knowledge gained from their training and equipment to improve their trades, rather than selling them for meagre profits. He emphasized his intention to facilitate more programmes in the senatorial district, and promised to bring hope and effective representation to the people.
