Real Madrid on Saturday recorded a Champions League final success after beating Liverpool one-nil courtesy of a second-half strike from Vini Jr. This became the club’s fourteenth Champions League title. Los Blancos won it in 1966 and faced a twenty-two-year drought until 1998 and then in 2000 and 2002. They also won it in 2014,2016,’17, and ’18, and now in 2022.
The defending champions were given a massive ovation in their city where they displayed their trophies achieved this year. The club has been working on new deals for certain players who are out of contract this summer. There have been plenty of positives to take from it all this week as many of the players intend to continue in the Spanish capital.
Vini Jr is very happy to have won the UCL with Real Madrid and he does not intend to stop there. The Brazil international has been offered a six-year contract extension at Real Madrid, having joined in 2018 summer. The winger has been offered a contract that will reportedly double his salary and keep him at the Santiago Bernabeu for six more years. Vini Jr is seen as a prized jewel at Real and the club has closed all avenues for offers for the Brazilian.
There have been discussions about other players leaving, with the likes of Dani Ceballos eager to join Betis. However, Madrid have debunked these rumours and insists Ceballos is a key part of the squad next season.
Luka Modric has stated he will spend one more season at Madrid, calling it his home and his teammates his ‘brothers’. Luka Modric is one of the eight players who have won five UEFA Champions League trophies with Real Madrid.
Club captain Marcelo is departing after fifteen years at the club, having signed from Brazil in 2007. The left-back is ready to make a return to his native land and he announced his decision on Saturday. The club will set to work on signing replacements for Marcelo, Isco, and Marco Asensio, should he decide to submit a transfer request.
Thibaut Courtois is considered ‘untouchable’ at the club and he is not interested in an exit as it stands. The Belgian shot-stopper has received plenty of praise following his heroics in the Champions League final on Saturday. Madrid will begin transfer plans next week as celebrations of the trophy continue this week.
