According to many sources in England, West Ham and Everton are ready to go at each other to lure Taiwo Awoniyi into their ranks. The Hammers have been monitoring Taiwo Awoniyi for a while and though a secondary option, he is seemingly their best shot at signing a striker next season as David Moyes begins his recruitment process before the pre0season tour begins in July.

West Ham made it to the Europa League semi-finals but lost to Frankfurt, who play Rangers in the final.  West Ham are also in the market for a midfielder following the departure and retirement of Mark Noble, aka Mr. West Ham who played his last home game on Sunday against Manchester City in a two-all draw.

West Ham have reportedly made inquiries about Awoniyi and the former Liverpool man could be open to playing in the Premier League. Taiwo Awoniyi finished the 2021/22 Bundesliga season with 14 league goals, the highest at his club Union Berlin and one of the few players who made double figures in the league this season, with the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Erling Haaland, Anthony Modeste, Patrick Schick, and Christopher Nkunku ahead of the Nigeria international.

The Hammers are willing to pay £20m for Taiwo Awoniyi’s signature and they are confident he will accept the offer in the summer. Awoniyi joined Union Berlin in the summer of 2021 on a permanent deal, having been on loan from Liverpool in the 2020/2021 season. Taiwo Awoniyi has become a prolific German league striker and has been able to hit double figures in back-to-back seasons at Union Berlin.

Everton are also in the running to sign Taiwo Awoniyi from Union Berlin and though a price has not been agreed yet, Awoniyi could leave for as high as £25m.  The striker is seen as a suitable option for the Toffees as Frank Lampard looks towards the new season. There are doubts that Taiwo Awoniyi will join the Toffees as he is a former Liverpool player and the thought will be devastating to the Red fans.

Another deciding factor could be if Everton are relegated from the Premier League should they lose to Arsenal on the final day of the Premier League season. There are very slim chances that Awoniyi will sign for Everton, especially with the fact that they are facing relegation, and luring a top league player like him will be difficult if they are in the Championship.

Awoniyi is comfortable in Union Berlin and he likes the German capital. Union Berlin are also not very keen on letting their lynchpin striker leave without getting a handsome figure for his departure. The summer transfer window will be open in June and interested clubs will be able to communicate with Union Berlin for Taiwo Awoniyi.
