A Californian jury has ordered rap artiste French Montana to pay a whooping figure of nearly $130k to one of his workers on his property who was attacked by his pet back in 2018. The jury agreed that Montana should have had proper control over his pet, understanding that there were workers on his grounds at the time the pet was outside.
The jury has awarded the victim, Juan Lomeli, money over Montana’s dog biting Lomeli and resulting in the man sustaining serious injuries. French Montana’s dog is a German Shepherd called Zane. Zane reportedly attacked Juan Lomeli in 2018 and the worker has since filed a suit against French Montana and his pet over the injuries Lomeli sustained four years ago.
Lomeli attests that he was busy with his work on the grounds when the dog jumped at him and sank its teeth into his arm. Lomeli’s attorney Brad Wallace claims that his client was injured for a reasonable period of time which left him out of work and thus without a means to sustain himself. He further stated that his client suffered not only physically but also emotionally as he became psychologically traumatized by the incident.
Wallace claims his client’s injured arm did not allow him to work for a reasonable period of time and thus cut away his financial capabilities. The jury awarded Juan Lomeli a scintillating figure of $129,500 in total damages. $39,500 is damages in economic loss for the period he has missed work. $60k is for non-economic damages(which includes physical and emotional damage)and $30k is for future non-economic damage inflicted by the dog, Zane.
French Montana is yet to speak on the matter and it is very unlikely he will do anything to defend his pet as he stands as the defendant in such a crystal-clear case. There has not been known yet a time frame for when French Montana will pay up the amount of $129,500 to Juan Lomeli.
