A Twitter GM announced that he would be leaving the company. The GM of Consumer, Keyvon Beykpour said in a tweet that he was asked to leave by the CEO, so the CEO wanted to take the team in another direction. He did say, though, that Bruce Falck, who is a revenue product lead for Twitter also plans to leave.
Twitter has named Jay Sullivan as both interim GM of Goldbird and Bluebird.
The company confirmed that they are not hiring.
“Effective this week, we are pausing most hiring and backfills, except for business-critical roles. We are also pulling back on non-labor costs to ensure we are being responsible and efficient,” the spokesperson said.

“The truth is that this isn’t how and when I imagined leaving Twitter, and this wasn’t my decision,” wrote Beykpour on Twitter. The exec was on paternity leave at the time he received the news, he noted. “While I’m disappointed, I take solace in a few things: I am INSANELY proud of what our collective team achieved over the last few years, and my own contribution to this journey,” Beykpour added before reeling off accomplishments that took place under his leadership.
Beykpour joined the Twitter team in July 2018 and has since changed roles. He moved up to GM, Consumer in December 2021, leading all teams that work on the company’s consumer apps.
As of the second quarter, 87% more Twitter users log in on a daily basis than they did the previous three months. In turn, this has led to new features like live audio chat rooms, Twitter Spaces, and Communities.
He also thanked his team, specifically calling out Jay Sullivan, the former Product Director who joined the company last year and became Twitter’s VP of Consumer Products; as well as former CEO Dick Costolo who brought Periscope to Twitter in the first place; and Twitter’s most recent CEO before Agrawal, Jack Dorsey; among others.
The departure of Beykpour follows the decision of Elon Musk, founder of Tesla and SpaceX, to acquire Twitter. Musk intends to strengthen his focus on free speech by buying the social media site, while making changes like charging for subscriptions and embedded tweets. The new CEO’s decision is not yet clear on what it means for all products spearheaded by Beykpour.
A group of Twitter executives have left, including the Chief Design Officer and Head of Engineering, following Jack Agrawal’s appointment to CEO in December.
The future does not look good for Twitter, as it has become apparent that its organization and leadership are not working.
