Scores of temporary workers who attempted the development of city entryways in Owerri, the Imo State capital and representatives who provided materials and refreshments amid the 2012 birthday commemoration festivity of Governor Rochas Okorocha have coaxed on the state government to pay them for their administrations
Addressing newsmen on Friday in Owerri on the stage of Concorde Hotel Suppliers and City Gate Contractors, the gathering said that banks had clipped down on them in light of their failure to reimburse the credits they took to complete the occupations and supply five years prior.
The spokespersons for the gathering, Declan Chukwu, and Pastor David Chukwukere, said that all pleas they had made to influence the legislature to pay them, incorporating having group of onlookers with the representative and Chief of Staff, Uche Nwosu, had yielded no productive outcome.
Chukwu, who said that the providers were being owed over N27 million for providing drugs, diesel, foodstuff and drinks to Concorde Hotel claimed by the state government, mourned that a significant number of them had shut shops in view of the way the legislature treated them.
Chukwu stated, “We are speaking to the state government to consider our situation. These are the provisions we made to Concorde Hotel, which is possessed by the state government amid the birthday festivity of the senator in 2012.
No dime has been paid to us. A considerable lot of us are bankrupt. Some have gone to the towns. The banks are bracing down on us. We can’t benefit the credit we took to make the Supplies. It is five years now and we lack the cash.”
For Chukwukere, the states of the temporary workers, who embraced the working of the city entryways, were horrifying, even as he encouraged the senator to critically act the hero.
“We are discussing over N100m and for a long time, we are yet to get it. We were not paid a dime for the agreement, not even assembly expense. We were made a request to work to a specific level before installment could be made, however no cash was given to us till now.
“We have had a group of people with the representative and the senator taught the Head of Works, Government House, to check our reports and make fitting proposals to him. The sum total of what that have been done, however we are yet to get any cash.
“We took advances from banks for the agreement and tragically that we can’t payback. A few of us are being bothered by their proprietors while others can’t stand to pay their kids school expenses.” Chukwukere bemoaned.
Responding, the Special Assistant to the Governor on ICT and Social Media, Abasiodu Idiong, asked the temporary workers to manage their correspondence with the Head of Works, Government House, whom the representative had trained to investigate their issue.
Idiong stated, “Since there is a correspondence, I need to encourage the temporary workers to support it with the HOD accountable for Works, Government House. Supporting it additionally involves being understanding. It won’t be decent in the event that they begin challenging.”
