Premier League club Manchester United are in the running for Napoli’s striker Victor Osimhen. United are set to lose the services of Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani at the end of the season as he is keen on playing in the La Liga next season. Manchester united are in the market in search of a striker as they must now face the new season without the veteran Uruguayan.
Osimhen’s name has popped up in the biggest football transfer rumours and the Napoli man has been on the radar of many clubs in the past few months. Manchester United are yet to hold talks with Osimhen’s representatives but the club are monitoring the situation closely, having signed Dutch tactician Erik ten Hag who intends to have a squad overhaul when he assumes office in June.
Osimhen is also on West Ham’s summer transfer list and the club are willing to meet with a £40m valuation for the 23-year-old. However Napoli are not going to accept any bids that will be less than £60m for their star gem as they are not fully interested in letting him leave this summer unless the price is right and that is in the region of £60-65m. Osimhen is happy at Napoli but will be open to a new adventure and possibly outside Italian shores will be very right for the striker.
The Nigeria international has scored 13 league goals in the Serie A in 25 appearances and scored 4 times in 5 Europa League appearances before they suffered a 1-4 loss to Barcelona, thereby crashing out of the competition. Osimhen is valued at £55m but Napoli believe he is worth much more and they have been clear they will accept no offers less than his current market value. Napoli are in the top four of the Serie A and have mathematically qualified for next season’s UEFA Champions League but their chances of winning the Scudetto this season is rather slim as they are currently below Inter and Milan but are above Juventus.
With the likes of Lorenzo Insigne heading out of the club next month, Napoli are making plans to sign a new winger and have identified a few but nothing concrete has been reached yet as they wait for the season to come to an end. Manchester Unite will consider other options should the Osimhen deal prove too complicated. Darwin Nunez of Benfica is another option for the Red Devils and they are again being rivalled by the Hammers who have been tracking Nunez since December last year.
Valued around £44m but with less experience than Osimhen, Nunez plays primarily as a centre-forward and also as a winger, both on the left and right hand side, adding another dimension to his style of play. Real Madrid were considering Nunez as well but have since stopped all talks with his representatives as their primary focus is solving their defensive woes as they go into the new season.
