Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as one of a few clubs interested in signing prodigal Madrid star Gareth Bale. The 32-year-old spent the 2020/21 season on loan with Tottenham as he complained of lack of game time at Real. Bale has also featured infrequently this season at his club as he also had his shirt number changed from 11 to 18.
Bale has struggled with injuries in recent years and has seen his regular spot on the right wing taken by the likes of Rodrygo Goes and Marco Asensio in recent seasons. Bale is very famous for being in the acclaimed BBC front three that comprised of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema. Spurs were hoping to sign him permanently in 2021 but Real Madrid refused, claiming they had plans for Bale to be an integral part of their squad for the season.
The Wales international has been eyed by other clubs in England as well, with West Ham being a surprise option. It is very likely that Bale will rejoin Spurs in the summer as many fans are looking to have him back at the club. Bale joined Spurs from Southampton in 2007 as a 17-year-old. He spent six years in North London before making the global switch to Real Madrid for $100m.
Spurs signed Dejan Kulusevski who also plays as a winger and is also left-footed. With Steven Bergwijn opting to leave, it is most likely that the Welshman will make the much anticipated return to Spurs and also on a free transfer. Tottenham are also looking to part ways with Gio Lo Celso and Joe Rodon. Ryan Sessegnon is to be offered a long term deal that could see him stay at the N17 till the summer of 2027.
Southampton are also interested in their academy graduate, Bale, and could make an offer that may rival Spurs’. No agreement has been reached yet with Bale’s representatives by any club and all talks will begin at the end of the season. Bale will leave Madrid with 4 UEFA Champions League titles, and 3 La Liga titles, what many will call a club legend as he scored a brace in the 2018 UCL final against Liverpool to clinch the trophy for a record 13 times and three back-to-back titles.
