Two policemen were shot during protests in the United States over a judge’s decision not to charge any officers in the murder of Breonna Taylor.
Taylor was a black hospital worker who was shot multiple times when three officers raided her house on March 13, 2020.
A grand jury in the city of Louisville ended up returning only one minor charge against one of the officers for shots that hit a neighboring apartment.
According to the attorney general, the actions of the two other officers had been justified.
One of the cops had been hit by a shot fired by Taylor’s boyfriend who later told police that he thought it was an ex-boyfriend of Taylor who had broken into the apartment.
A search warrant for Taylor’s home had been granted by a judge as investigators suspected her ex-boyfriend (a convicted drug dealer) was using the address to receive packages. Taylor had no criminal records.
The two policemen were shot on Wednesday night and are in stable condition at the moment, with a suspect having been arrested.
A state of emergency has been declared and a three-day curfew in effect.
