Glee star Naya Rivera apparently tried to get help before she died as revealed by her son.
Rivera and her 4-year-old son had rented a boat in July at Lake Piru and the two decided to go into the water for a swim. Shortly after, the actress told her son to get back on the boat.
A new report says that while speaking to investigators, her son disclosed that she screamed for help before she drowned.
“She helped him onto the boat and then he heard his mother yell ‘help’ and she put her arm in the air,” the report said. “She then disappeared into the water.”
An autopsy report revealed that Naya Rivera’s cause of death was drowning and the manner was accidental. It stated that she did not have a history of “suicidal ideation or attempt” and had been taking medication for a sinus infection.
The reports also say that she had vertigo that worsened when she was in the water but was considered to be a good swimmer.
According to the investigative report, Rivera was offered a life jacket but declined (the rental employee said he provided her a jacket anyway).
Rivera’s disappearance led to a six-days search which ended in the discovery of her body in the northeast part of the lake where the water is between 35 and 60 feet deep.
