A 25-year-old pregnant lady in Anambra State has been arrested by the police for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend to death.
The suspect, Onyinye Chime, reportedly committed the act in the home of the victim, Eleyi Azubuike, in Ochiagha street in Nkpor area of the state on Wednesday, September 2, 2020.
Muhammed Haruna, the spokesperson for the state police command, revealed the ugly incident to newsmen, saying the police got a report of the alleged murder and immediately went to the crime scene.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased allegedly impregnated the suspect and wanted an abortion which she declined and demanded some money for her upkeep which the deceased also refused to oblige. He said this eventually led to a scuffle between the couple that resulted in the deceased being stabbed to death.”
Haruna stated that police detectives attached to Ogidi Division visited the scene and rushed the victim (who was found in a pool of blood) to Iyi Enu Mission Hospital, Ogidi for medical treatment. He was certified dead by the medical doctor on arrival.
He revealed that careful observation of the deceased body showed a stab wound on the chest. A blood-stained kitchen knife was also recovered at the scene as an exhibit.
Haruna said the case is under investigation as the circumstances leading to the murder need to be ascertained.
