As tributes to late Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman keep pouring in, his High School is creating a scholarship in his name to honor him.
Boseman died on August 28, 2020, after a four-year battle with colon cancer. Walter Mayfield, the principal at T.L. Hanna High School (where the late star attended) revealed to TMZ that they are establishing the Chadwick Boseman Memorial Scholarship for a yearly honor to a deserving student.
Mayfield stated that the goal is to create a sustainable scholarship for years to come, with the school aiming to raise $100,000 towards that end.
He mentioned that a group of people has already reached out about contributing to Chadwick’s honor.
The school is also trying to work with Boseman’s family on the plan as they feel it is essential to involve them in aiding the institution to formulate criteria for the award.
Boseman’s former basketball coach, Wayne Jones, is pushing for the school to retire the number he used to wear (32) in his memory.
Jones says the movie star was an all-round solid player on the court who played for 4 years on the varsity squad, adding that he could do a bit of everything.
Boseman’s South Carolina hometown is also set to honor him soon.
