Not everyone is a fan of renowned singer R. Kelly. He got an unexpected surprise in the form of a beating recently, thanks to an irate inmate.
Federal law enforcement sources who spoke with TMZ said the incident occurred inside the Metropolitan Center in Chicago where the singer was sitting in his bed when another inmate walked into his cell and started punching him.
According to the sources, the inmate attacked R. Kelly because he wasn’t happy about the detention facility being placed on lockdown several times due to fans of the singer protesting outside the prison.
The altercation didn’t last long and it wasn’t revealed if another inmate or guards broke it up. R. Kelly was reportedly examined by a doctor who said that he was okay and suffered no broken bones or serious injuries.
A spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Prisons stated that he was unable to comment on an inmate’s conditions of confinement or medical status due to privacy and safety reasons.
TMZ also reached out to Kelly’s attorney, Steven Greenberg, for comment but he refused to discuss the incident, but he did mention that Kelly was a model inmate.
