The late King of Pop Michael Jackson will always be remembered as one of the most revered icons in the world of entertainment.
As one of the greatest artists of all time, MJ’s music transcended culture, tribe, and nations. He was so famous that at a time the only thing more famous than him on the planet was the drinking brand Coca-Cola.
Sadly, in the latter part of his career, Wacko Jacko’s life was plagued with constant controversies, most prominent among them being the alleged child abuse scandal.
After his death in 2009, the police reportedly found a number of notes written by the pop star. Supposedly handwritten, these notes provided some insight into how Jackson saw his colleagues in the music industry.
One of the notes seems to single out Elvis Presley, another singer regarded as the King of Rock and Roll.
Dubbed ‘The King’, Presley was one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century. He was born in 1935 and died on August 16, 1977.
Though Jackson’s reign came after Presley’s passing, it appears the King of Pop always harbored jealousy for the King of Rock and Roll.
In one of the notes written by MJ, he specifically condemned Presley, saying, “Elvis is NOT King. I am not prejudiced, it’s just time for the first Black King now.”
Jackson would later go on to express his unhappiness with the ongoing racism in the music industry.
As music enthusiasts debate over who was the better entertainer between the two kings, they shouldn’t forget that both Jackson and Presley were behemoths in their own rights so comparing the two just wouldn’t make that much sense.
Fans would do well to remember what they achieved and the things they stood for, honoring their legacy and preserving their memories.
