Nigerian musician, Olubankole Wellington popularly known as Banky W on Saturday declared to run for the House of Reps, Eti-Osa Lagos under the flagship of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). This news came as a surprise to many Nigerian and has sparked huge reactions.
Banky W had contested for the same office and lost in the previous election under Modern Democratic Party (MDP) founded by Bukunyi Olateru-Olagbegi. Now, the musician cum actor has now decamped to one of the prominent parties in the country, PDP.
Nigerians are now questioning his intentions as they believe PDP isn’t the party that can uphold the interest of the youth.
Check some reactions below:
Understand why you have gone with PDP but I hope you will be allowed to change things from within. It will be tough and risky, instead of being happy I’m scared for you. This is the Nigeria we have today. #becareful

Banky W declaring for PDP is most bizarre. What happened to all the drones? ????

I don’t knw why you all keep comparing Banky with Desmond Elliot like man hasn’t even gone for a seat, he just declared Desmond has shown who he really his. Which one is “I hope Banky W will not be another Desmond” Give him the chance and not link him to Desmond

While others are knocking Banky W, some feel indifferent and they believe it’s better to win from the inside since PDP is a big party.
See below:
When it comes to Nigeria actually working to make Nigeria work, you’d have to be pragmatic about it. I’d take a Banky W who joins PDP to run for office over those who’d pretend to form one new party every election, fully aware they are just fooling around.

Banky W joined PDP to contest ahead of 2023. I think this is a good way to start.
Let’s be honest, if it’s not PDP, it’s APC. What other party is there to join that has the resources, funds and people to beat this 2 parties.
Let’s not lie to ourselves.

Actually, you can’t scream change from the outside, you have to get inside, get your hands dirty and create the change! Banky W is right to join either of these two giant parties if he’s really ready to create the change! All the best Banky https://t.co/Q4A4iNdK23

APC had 22k+ votes, PDP had 18k+ votes and Banky W with MDP had 7k+ votes in 2019 election. Banky has realised that popular name isn't enough and you have to be very realistic with your ambition. Supporting any Party outside PDP/APC in 2023 is a waste of time.

We said we want youths in politics, Banky w just declared his intrest to run and y'all are still criticizing his choice of party, didn't he run under MDP in 2019? did he win? Y'all should just leave him alone to be himself, he can run under PDP and still make significant changes

I'd love to see @BankyW in public office regardless of the party, even though I'm not the greatest fan of the PDP-APC twin evil.
Good luck to Banky W — because people like him, whose track record of people passion is there for all to see, deserve a place in leadership. https://t.co/1zpH7ktLIQ
