Tragedy struck on Wednesday when 18 persons were burned beyond recognition in an auto crash in Narbodo village of Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi state.
The sector commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Yusuf Abdullahi, gave details of the incident in a road traffic report made available to NAN on Thursday.
Three individuals on the trailer were unharmed, according to Abdullahi, who said that the collision involved a single Toyota Hiace bus and an articulated vehicle.
He said that the incident occurred around 4:40 pm, and the corps arrived at the scene within seven minutes after the collision.
He said that speeding was the main factor in the collision, which resulted in a head-on collision between the two cars.
“Twenty-one people were involved in the road crash and there were 18 male adults and three children,” he said.
“Eighteen people who were all inside the Toyota Hiace bus were burnt beyond recognition as the vehicle went up in flames after having a head-on collision with the trailer.”
Abdullahi said a mass burial was immediately carried out for the victims by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
The sector commander urged drivers to always be aware of traffic laws and regulations when driving.
