Ahead of the Governorship/House of Assembly election in Oyo state scheduled for Saturday, a total of 15,000 security personnel drawn from various security agencies, including the Police and Army, have been deployed to provide security and maintain law and order during the exercise.
The heads of the security agencies held a meeting behind closed doors on Thursday at the Police Command Headquarters in Ibadan to finalize preparations.
During the meeting, the State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Williams, reviewed the performance of the security agencies during the last Saturday’s Presidential Election and assured the residents of the state of the readiness of the security agencies to effectively carry out their duties by ensuring the safety of lives and property during and after the election.
Williams emphasized that the security agencies would effectively police all the 6,393 polling units across the 33 local government areas, while also stating that there would be restrictions on human and vehicular movements between 12 midnight and 6 pm on Saturday.
In conclusion, the security agencies in Oyo State have left no stone unturned in their bid to ensure a peaceful and credible election. The deployment of such a large number of personnel underscores the importance of security in maintaining the integrity of the electoral process. The people of Oyo state can therefore rest assured that their security and safety are guaranteed during and after the elections.
